Hungarian Dixieland Music
Just listen... and see the washboard technique! First off: sick nasty washboard. And he's using his fingers with thimbles on it!

Mixing It Up
Here's some awesome metal music. I figured this blog got way too jazz and jam oriented. I've been listening to some Apocalyptica, which if you don't know them... its a band of electric/acoustic cello players covering metal classics, with a couple originals thrown in. Here's one of my favorite tracks, an original called "Struggle." Nothing like creepy strings.

Horace Silver Revisited
Honestly, all his stuff's good. Youtube search this man. Now. This is what I'm rocking out to right now, the 10 minute long jam of Filthy McNasty. Listen to how often Horace smashes his left hand on the piano. It's awesome. I'll be back later to post some new stuff.

Question
I was listening to some Horace Silver through Youtube (where else?) and came across a mislabeled track... supposedly this is "The Show Has Begun" but thats not a track on the album. Anyone heard this? It's a pretty sweet track, it's classic Horace Silver combo jazz.

80's rap. So good...
First off sorry about the hiatus on the blog. Not that anyone reads this anyways... but I've been in Syracuse doing an interview and talking to Onondaga Central School. (I'm definitely getting an interview in July) Anyways, if you ever feel shitty or nervous about where your life is headed... listen to early 80s rap. It's a serious mood booster. Need an example? Captain Crunch and the Funky Bunch. I'll be back in Fredtown tomorrow- thanks for reading.

Badass Remixes
I'm a big fan of video game remixes. I just really love the creativity that comes out through some of these. One of my all time favorites is GaMeBoX's iMushroom. I wouldn't even listen to the source music to this one, you really can barely hear it. Just listen to the different modulations and sample changes the music goes through. It's really pretty cool.

Chameleon 2
Yes, this song is basically Chameleon 2. Hopefully, you all know Chameleon, basically the ultimate jam piece. It was on the Head Hunters album of Herbie Hancock. Well, I recently purchased Man-Child, a later Hancock album... and listened to this. Steppin In It. Enjoy.

Al Hirt
I recently purchased a record player... best investment ever. Then I went up to Buffalo and went record shopping. I bought two old records of a dixieland trumpet player, Al Hirt. AMAZING. The fat tone he could get was incredible, and his solos SWUNG. I couldn't find too much dixieland stuff on Youtube, but I found a concert video he did. Check it out. Also, he was the trumpet player for that sweet Flight Of The Bumblebee arrangement on Kill Bill Vol. 1. Whoa.

Kenny Garrett
I was just reminded today of the annual Jazz In The Square, which is a festival every summer in Syracuse. Speaking of which, my all time favorite concert there was by a sax player named Kenny Garrett... I remember rocking out to one song in particular, while POB, McNasty and I went through 2 72 packs of Airheads. That's 144 rolls of taffy goodness.
And that song was Happy People. Enjoy.

Gavin Harrison
Gavin Harrison- sick nasty drummer. Equally as sick is his background tracks he uses to show off to. This one I'm still looking for the real name to: it's merely labeled "ff3." It's sick big band jazz/funk... very well written/arranged.
If you liked that here's another Gavin Harrison feature- it's called 19 days. It's not big band, but it's really chill (and in 19/8 time, might I add?) and really shows off his stuff.
So check him out... a really good drummer and he has a fine taste in music.

Denroy Morgan
Denroy Morgan is a very much unknown funk artist of the last 70s, early 80s. He's one of the few Jamaican funk artists that had a hit album... this one being "I'll Do Anything For You." However, that's not my favorite track, my personal favorite is Sweet Tender Love. Check that one out... sure, it sounds like typical 70s soul/funk but it grooves so very very hard. I'm getting a record player in a week or so- I need to go out and find this album.

Schnabubula Post #1
Alright guys, here's a piano player I've been following for a couple years now. His name is Samuel Ascher-Weiss, but he goes under the tag Schnabubula. He used to arrange video game music for Over Clocked Remix, but then he was caught hacking the site or something, and they banned him. Anyways, he's 23 years old and a PHENOMENAL piano player. If you can deal with the dizziness of a bad camera, here's a couple links of him playing. I'm going to round up and couple links on his music arrangements so you can really grasp his arranging style, which is also PHENOMENAL.
Boom Skiggy, a Schnabubula original
Giant Steps
Choppastyle, a tune by another OCRemixer
He literally put these up a week ago, but if you need more I believe he's also on Youtube as Samuel Ascher-Weiss as well, just search for it.

2 Tone ... is really good.
I've been doing some research on early ska (1980s), especially the "second wave" or the British ska movement known as 2 Tone, I believe it had something to do with the label most of the artists were on. (Double checking that with wikipedia... yes, I'm right)
Now I knew the band Madness was one of the frontrunners, but I didn't really listen to their music as much. And yes, that's the same band as "Our House," even though Our House doesn't sound very ska-ish.
Listening to the lyrics and watching the videos of these groups, I can't help but notice they definitely targeted the high school/college age, probably because bands like The Specials and Madness looked like they were in high school. Watch Gangsters by The Specials, it's a good tune.
Also... check out the music video to Our House... Madness had some of the best videos for being just so plain ridiculous and silly. At 2:16... check out the guitar solo... not only does he change guitars every 2 bars, but after his solo he pumps his fist like it was the best guitar solo ever.
So anyways, check out other Madness tunes... they have a bunch of good ska stuff, and their videos always have something to laugh at.
