I've been doing some research on early ska (1980s), especially the "second wave" or the British ska movement known as 2 Tone, I believe it had something to do with the label most of the artists were on. (Double checking that with wikipedia... yes, I'm right)
Now I knew the band Madness was one of the frontrunners, but I didn't really listen to their music as much. And yes, that's the same band as "Our House," even though Our House doesn't sound very ska-ish.
Listening to the lyrics and watching the videos of these groups, I can't help but notice they definitely targeted the high school/college age, probably because bands like The Specials and Madness looked like they were in high school. Watch Gangsters by The Specials, it's a good tune.
Also... check out the music video to Our House... Madness had some of the best videos for being just so plain ridiculous and silly. At 2:16... check out the guitar solo... not only does he change guitars every 2 bars, but after his solo he pumps his fist like it was the best guitar solo ever.
So anyways, check out other Madness tunes... they have a bunch of good ska stuff, and their videos always have something to laugh at.
